After winning the Class D State Championship last year, and ending the season with a record of 17-3, the SCS boys varsity baseball team is expecting yet another victorious season.

This year, the team will be playing 20 games, making the season more difficult than last year where they only played 12.

Although the team has lost power hitters and key pitchers, Tim Gordon, Jake DiNozzi, Kyle Straker, and Jack Palma, there are key returners.

The key returning players are senior captains Ben Damon and Vinny Ciaravino, and juniors Sal Ciaravino, Zachary DiBlanda, Carlos Pagan, and Glen-Luke Middendorf.

Mr. Chris White is now the head coach of the team, with Mr. Gorton as his assistant coach.

“I cannot fill the shoes of what he [Mr. Gorton] has done, but with his leadership and baseball knowledge, I hope to continue to lead the team to having a shot at another state title,” said Coach White.

Practice for the boys starts at 3:15. They jog, stretch, and throw for about 20 minutes before heading into infield/outfield drills.

Their first game of the season was against their biggest rival, Pierson. The game on Monday, unfortunately, resulted in a loss 13-6. However, the boys made a comeback by winning 7-5 on Tuesday, March 31st, while versing Pierson again. This was the first time that SCS defeated Pierson in two years.

Mr. White urges students and faculty to come out and support the baseball team as they

strive to make it to the championship once more.
