Softball season has always been an exciting time at SCS. It is a symbol of springtime and great memories for all, especially the group of girls who are on the team.
This year’s team consists of a new mix of seasoned players and joining members.
The roster is,
Vanessa Vetere (Captain)
Christine Ferguson (Captain)
This year, the team is welcoming Mr. Vinny Vetere as their new head coach. The previous coach, Mr. Steffens, stepped down after his daughter, Hannah, graduated last year. Coach Vetere is the father of both senior captain Vanessa, and freshman player Danielle.
Coach Vetere is excited to take on the role as head coach, along with his Assistant Coach Tommy Pierro.
When asked what he was looking forward to most about this upcoming season, Coach Vetere responded, “watching the kids grow in their friendships [as well as] their relationship with God. Becoming team players, and encouraging one another, no matter how the game or season goes. Watching the team act as true Children of God all the time.”
The team played their first game today, April 21st, against the Knox School. The Knights took the win 18-11, and they are ecstatic that all of their dedication has paid off. They have been hard at work practicing and preparing every day after school.
The girls’ next game is scheduled for April 22 at Shelter Island at 4:30, and there is a home game April 23 at 4:30, against the Stony Brook School.
Smithtown Christian is eager to see what will come from the girls softball team this season, and they are off to a great start!
