This 2015 season, Coach Patricio Nieto is leading the Smithtown Christian boys varsity soccer team with passion and a desire for success.
There are currently 22 players on the team. The team is a strong, mature group that has its eye on the prize to advance as much as it can.
When asked what a typical day of practice is like, Coach Nieto explained, “well it depends on what we need to key in and focus on… It really depends on the day. It changes especially if we have three games in one week. ”
The team is in class D, league 8 and so far the boys have had 3 games. They won 3 and lost 1. Their overall record from last season was 8-3.
The seniors on the team include Defensemen Ian Mims and Zach DiBlanda, Nikita Grob, a Midfielder, Forward and Striker; Peter Hahm, a Midfield and Ariel Bonilla, a Forward.
The returning top players are seniors Zach DiBlanda, Nikita Grob, Ian Mims, and Mid-Fielder, and junior Rich Clinton. The top new players this season consist of Goal Keeper, Aydin Olgun (sophomore), Forward, William Vandeventer (junior) and Forward and Striker, Luciano Pagliarulo (sophomore).
This season’s new starters include: junior Midfielders Brandon Weindorf, Kyle Seok, John Martin, and Defenseman Spenser Stein (sophomore).
Their biggest rival this season appears to be Greenport, according to Coach Nieto and senior Zach DiBlanda, due to the competitive fight they put up against the SCS Knights.
