The halls of Smithtown Christian School were quiet this past Wednesday, as students and faculty alike had the day off in honor of U.S. veterans.
However, Mr. Michael Troche’s 11th grade class thought that showing respect to veterans should not be confined to one day, so they took a field trip down to Main Street, Smithtown on Thursday, November 12.
A select group of students assisted Mr. Troche by baking treats to bring down to the local recruiting office. While there, the students were able to speak with veterans, and Mr. Troche was able to invite them to the Veterans’ Night that they hold at the school each year, in the spring.
The students enjoyed this opportunity to get out and do something hands-on for the veterans. The trip was a great idea, and was definitely appreciated by all who participated.
