Favorite bible verse: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” Romans 12: 9

I like this verse because these sentences are the truth to not only Christians, but also people like me should behave this way. Be honorable and honest to the people you love; reject the things you think are wrong, and people must hold the own belief.

Favorite biblical hero and why: Noah is my favorite biblical character. I think among the people at that time, he could still believe in his belief— God, trust Him and follow His orders. He made a right and good choice. I think this is the behavior that all men should have, making good decisions that can help himself and his family have a better life.

Favorite Christian band/music and why: Our school band is the only Christian band I have ever heard, and I really enjoy the music they play.

Hobbies: Chinese calligraphy, basketball, cooking food, talking to friends, listening to music.

Favorite movies: All movies by Jackie Chan, Speeding Scandal (Korea), Little Forest (Japan), A Stupid Journey (China)

Favorite foods: All Chinese food

Favorite school subject and why: Home Economics is my favorite class because I realized this subject can teach me a lot of stuff that I can use in my real life. I can learn much more than I imaged in the beginning.

Favorite Bible Verse and why: Romans 8:28. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

I’ve always found this verse comforting, especially during the roughest patches of my life. It reminds me that even though I don’t know why God allows certain things to happen, He can use anything, even the worst of trials, for my good in the end. God has a reason for everything He does, and we can’t always see it, but we have to trust that He will allow it all to work out in the end.

Favorite biblical Hero and why: I would say Esther. I’ve always been interested in her story, and admired her bravery. Her courage and strength in times of fear is something I hope to achieve one day.

Favorite Christian band/music and why: As far as Christian bands go, my favorite has to be Skillet. For one thing, I’ve always liked rock—I’ve often listened to classic rock music with my dad—and Skillet does do a lot of heavy rock, which I think is awesome. As far as music goes, I like songs that are loud and passionate, as well as songs I personally can relate to. As far as Christian music goes, though, I can’t say I have many other favorites. I’ll listen to whatever is on the radio.

Hobbies: Writing, reading if I have time, learning languages, and occasionally playing horror games on the computer.

Favorite Movie(s): The Prince of Egypt is an old favorite from when I was younger and will always be up there on the list. Though I have plenty of other favorites, like The Butterfly Effect, Dark Shadows, and Parental Guidance to name a few. I’m also a bit of a Lord of the Rings fan, though.

Favorite foods: Some of my favorites are pineapples, cantaloupes, avocados, pretty much any type of pizza, and red velvet cake. Though to be honest, there are probably too many to name here.

Favorite school subject and why: Right now, one of my favorites is U.S. Government. I’ve always been a history nerd, and I don’t know, I find it really interesting, learning how our government works. Though, when I took it, my favorite subject was Spanish, hands down. Spanish was always easy for me, and I found that I really loved the language. I miss taking it!

GPA: 4.0

Colleges you are interested in attending: Right now, it’s between Boston and Stony Brook University. I’m leaning more towards Stony Brook, though.

Career Interests: I want to study linguistics, but I’m not sure what I’ll be doing with that yet. I’ve considered being a teacher, or maybe I could be a translator of some sort. My dream job, however, would be working for the UN.

Favorite Bible verse: Deuteronomy 29: 29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever…”

This verse is my favorite because it reminds me that while I cannot know everything, the Lord still does. He reveals to us what we need to know at the time, but the rest of the missing pieces are still in His full control.

Favorite Bible hero: I’m not sure if he is a hero per say, but Isaiah is my favorite figure in the bible. When the Lord called, he responded instantly with “here I am Lord, send me.” Even when he was told that he was being called to a people who will never truly hear his message and respond in kindness, Isaiah still served the Lord. That passion for the things of the Lord and that desire to follow Him, no matter what, is something I wish to have myself.

Favorite Christian song: The Lord Our God and Be Thou My Vision

Hobbies: Reading and singing along to musicals.

Favorite movies: Bridge to Terebithia, Fired Up

Favorite foods: Chicken parmesan, fries

Favorite school subject: My favorite school subject is history, because I enjoy learning about the common thread between past events and the present.

GPA: 3.8

College I will be attending: Eastern Nazarene College

Career Interests: Realistically, my career interests are being a social worker and/or counselor. Not realistically, I would want to be an interior designer or wedding planner.

Favorite Bible Verse and why: 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.”

This verse is my favorite because it is a constant reminder of how awesome God is. The fact that we are redeemed through Christ and are now made new is the greatest demonstration of love and grace. Hearing this verse when I’m struggling in my faith makes me remember that serving God is totally worth it because He made us whole when we definitely did not deserve it.

Favorite Biblical Verse and why: My favorite biblical figure is unquestionably Daniel. He was literally everything I aspire to be as a believer today. He had tremendous faith, was so unashamed of his love for God that he was willing to put his life on the line, and was known for pursuing excellence in everything that he did. He is, besides Jesus, of course, one of my biggest influences from the Bible.

Favorite Christian band/music and why: For Christian music, either David Crowder Band, Phil Wickham, or Gungor. Since I’m a musician, I’m a bit of a stickler with Christian music that is excellent both in its message and how it sounds musically. No band/person conquers the criteria better than these three, and they are all incredible musicians and lyricists. Outside Christian music, I love listening to Coldplay, John Mayer, and Colony House.

Hobbies: Playing music, listening to music, pretending I have other hobbies besides music.

Favorite Movies: Star Wars

Favorite Foods: Pizza and Chicken Parm

Favorite School Subject and why: Right now, it’s U.S. Government. It is the most informative and interesting class I have taken, and all of the things I am learning will definitely be useful in the future.

Favorite Bible Verse and why: Habakkuk 3:17-19a “When the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines; when the olive tree does not produce, and the fields yield no crops; when the sheep disappear from the pen, and there are not cattle in the stalls, I will rejoice because of the Lord; I will be happy because of the God who delivers me! The sovereign Lord is my source of strength.”

Happiness is seeing life from God’s perspective. Habakkuk was able to rejoice in times when he had nothing and felt absolutely hopeless because he understood that God was faithful. He looked beyond his circumstances to God’s guidance and strength. I love this verse because in every situation of my life, I can rejoice and have true happiness and joy because my God is faithful and will continue to deliver me through everything.

Favorite Biblical Hero and why: My favorite biblical hero is Moses. Moses had a speech impediment and felt that God could never use him to go before Pharaoh. However, through his weakness, God used him for a great and mighty purpose. He is my favorite biblical hero because he stands as an example of how God can use anyone. We may think we are weak, but we are strong in God. He has a plan to use us in mighty ways if we are willing to allow Him.

Favorite Christian Band/ Music: Shane and Shane. They are not only extremely musically talented, but the words to their songs are full of emotion and truly focus on all God is.

Hobbies: Playing the piano and guitar

Favorite Movie: I don’t have a favorite movie in particular. I enjoy Bollywood movies, horror movies, and sappy chick flicks.

Favorite Foods: I absolutely love artichokes and seafood.

Favorite School Subject and why: My favorite subject is science. I love learning about the complexity of life. It completely amazes me.

GPA: 4.0

Colleges you are interested in attending: My dream college would be Duke University but I realize that is impossible. I am interested in attending New York Institute of Technology, Stony Brook University, Seton Hall University, or Quinnipiac University.

Favorite Bible Verse and why: Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) – “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” According to this verse, no matter what enemies that will rise up against the followers of Christ, their plans will stand no chance against the power of the Lord. Although we probably won’t be faced with a physical army like back then, our enemies can be anything that causes us trouble today such as grudges, struggles, and simple issues. For me, these words have been a source of inspiration through many trials in life as they remind me that it does not matter what obstacles be before me, for God is on my side.

Favorite Biblical Hero and why: Out of all the amazing men and women in the Bible, the one I consider my personal favorite would be Job. If there is one thing you could say about this man, it’s that he must have been crazy or the closest thing to the embodiment of patience. Despite his immense personal losses, backstabbing friends and family, and with no hope in sight, Job remained faithful to God. What do you know? It all worked out in the end. Everything he lost was replaced and better than before. His life exemplifies a level of total faith, trust, and longsuffering that I one day hope to achieve.

Favorite Christian band/music and why: Ever since I was a child, the majority of music I was exposed to were traditional hymns that were either sung at my church or on theradio. Since then, I have come to enjoy this genre of music for their genius chord structure. Even after a century in some cases; they still proclaim the glory of God. Outside of Christian music, I enjoy listening to classical music from the great composers of the past and electronic music, especially by Daft Punk.

Hobbies: Playing the piano, drawing, sports, general research, and pondering the mysteries of life.

Favorite Movie(s): To be honest, I don’t really have a favorite movie rather, a set of genres that include action, adventure and science fiction.

Favorite foods: Chicken- All types, it doesn’t matter. Just give it to me!

Favorite school subject and why: I love sciences. The reason why I prefer this are of studies over all the other subjects is due to two reasons. First, so many of the great things that humanity has discovered have come from the application of science and in return, the sciences have expanded informational depth. Also, in these classes you can actually do something hands on for a change, rather than writing a paper or listening to endless rambles.

Subjects you teach this year: Life Science and Living Environment

Church and ministries: I am a youth leader and children’s church teacher at Heart of Worship Church.

How many years have you been teaching at Smithtown Christian, and why is teaching at a Christian school is so important to you: This is my third year at SCS. Teaching at a Christian school is important to me, because I can share the truth in my science class. I can pray with students when they are in need, and I can encourage them with Scripture. It is also great to work with co-workers that love the Lord.

Favorite teaching memories: The best moments in teaching are witnessing those “AHA” moments with my student. It is awesome to see their hard work and perseverance pay off.

Favorite Bible verse: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! [2 Corinthians 5:17]

Favorite Music: Kim Walker-Smith, Tenth Avenue North, Jesus Culture, Crossing Jordan, and Common Call

Family: I am married to my wonderful husband, Mark John, for a little over a year now. He is supportive, hilarious, and best of all, loves God with all of his heart. I also have two beautiful nieces named Anna and Layla.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be: I want to be part of the change that shows people that God and science are not two separate entities. Creation always reveals the design of God and His complexity.

Share something about you that no one at the school knows: I love learning and playing my guitar.
