Winter is here, and that means basketball is back.

This year, SCS will not have a JV or varsity boys basketball team. Instead, the SCS coaching staff is focusing on developing the junior high team so that these young men can grow into extraordinary high school athletes.

So far, the team has eight boys, and they are all evenly and equally skilled.

Coach Dan Skaritka says, “We do have multiple players who can contribute in multiple areas of the game.”

The team is focusing on the fundamentals and the basic drills of basketball during practice. Coach Skaritka is trying to give these boys a solid foundation and a grand knowledge in the world of basketball. He is conditioning them well. With games starting soon, they have been focusing on half court, inbound plays, and scrimmaging.

“Not many players on the team have played organized basketball for a long period time, so I expect a lot of growth in skill level and knowledge of the game.  We will be playing larger schools, so I’m excited to see how competitive we will be in games,” Skaritka said about his expectations for the season.

The team does not yet have an ultimate rival, being that this is Coach Skaritka’s first year coaching at the junior high level.

He believes that each game is a “must win rivalry game,” this season.
